About
I create sculptures and arrange them in tableaus, which I then photograph using traditional photography techniques. I’m interested in contrasting natural forms with the music they evoke for me. Drawing from my background in sculpture, I work with various materials—most recently fired clay, which contains minerals similar to those found in rocks and fossils. Rocks, fossils and the plant life trapped inside them inspire in me to reflect in photographic form how I feel holding them in my hand, for the ones I own, or holding others in my mind as jumping off points to contrast the span of my life to the deep time visible in them. I am stimulated by the sounds of certain landscapes, including the plant and animal life that once inhabited them which I interpret as sculptural renditions of radio waves in this photo series.
I attended my foundation year at The Cooper Union School of Art. I completed my BFA at The University of Texas at El Paso with concentrations in sculpture, metalsmithing, and printmaking; and my MFA in sculpture at Cranbrook Academy of Art.
Austin, Texas is where I call home.
I am interested in exhibitions, site specific installations, and artist residencies.
